Etsy charges three separate fees on every sale, and a fourth one if the buyer found you through an ad. None of them looks large on its own. Added together they take 11-15% of a typical order, and over 25% once Offsite Ads are involved.

The Etsy Fee Stack

Every sale triggers at least three charges. The listing fee is $0.20, charged when you publish a product and again each time it renews. The transaction fee is 6.5% of the total sale price, including any shipping you charge the buyer. Payment processing costs 3% + $0.25 per transaction for US sellers on Etsy Payments.

That comes to 9.5% + $0.45 per sale. On a $25 item you lose $2.83 before covering materials or your own time.

Etsy raised the transaction fee from 5% to 6.5% in April 2022. Sales that arrive through Etsy's Offsite Ads carry a separate advertising fee on top, and shops earning more than $10K a year cannot opt out of that programme. Opening a shop also costs a one-time set-up fee that varies by country, so check Etsy's fee page before you budget for it.

How the Math Adds Up Per Sale

Per-sale figures look small. Annual ones rarely do.

At $25 per sale and 100 sales a month, Etsy takes $2.83 each time: $283 a month, $3,390 a year. You keep $22.18 per sale, or $2,218 a month, before subtracting what the product cost to make.

Sellers routinely forget listing fees, because Etsy charges them whether or not anything sells. A 100-item shop that renews every listing pays $0.20 x 100 x 12 = $240 a year simply to stay visible.

Do Etsy Fees Differ by Country?

Some of them do. The $0.20 listing fee and the 6.5% transaction fee are identical wherever you sell, charged in USD and converted if your shop uses another currency.

Payment processing is the part that moves. US sellers on Etsy Payments pay 3% + $0.25. UK sellers pay 4% + £0.20. Every other market sets its own percentage and its own fixed component, and a few add a regulatory operating fee. Etsy lists the current figure for each country in its seller fee policy.

The calculator above uses US rates. Selling elsewhere changes only the payment processing line; listing and transaction stay as they are.

How Etsy Fees Apply to Shipping

Both the 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% processing fee apply to the total the buyer pays. Shipping counts toward that total, which catches out a lot of sellers.

Charge $5 shipping on a $25 item and Etsy calculates its percentages on $30. Fees rise from $2.83 to $3.30, costing you an extra $0.48 per sale. Over 100 sales a month that becomes $48 a month, or $576 a year, taken out of money you are probably handing straight to a carrier.

Free shipping does not avoid this. Whatever you build into the item price attracts the same 9.5%. Charging shipping at cost is worse, because you pay Etsy's percentage on money that never stays with you. The calculator has separate fields for what you charge and what postage actually costs you.

What Offsite Ads Cost

Etsy advertises listings on Google, Meta and other networks. A sale that arrives through one of those ads carries an advertising fee on top of the standard three.

Shops pay 15%, or 12% once they have made more than $10,000 in the past 365 days. Crossing that threshold lowers the rate and removes the choice: below $10K you can opt out, above it you cannot.

A $25 sale sourced from an Offsite Ad costs $6.58 instead of $2.83. The effective rate more than doubles.

Is the Etsy Offsite Ads Fee Capped?

Yes. The fee stops at $100 per order, however large the order is.

That ceiling only comes into play once the order total passes $666.67 at the 15% rate, or $833.33 at 12%, so most sellers never reach it. On an $800 order it saves you $20: the uncapped 15% would be $120, and you pay $100.

The cap applies per order rather than per item, so a buyer who adds several products to one basket triggers it sooner than the same products sold separately.
