Reflecting back on my answers to Exercise 9.1 (Schmidt, 2006), I can definitely see a relationship between the classist attitudes which can affect access to human services. Members of the lower class are often minorities, people with little education, and few job skills. People considered poor face greater challenges to overcoming the labels, oppression, and discrimination. Affluence and social class play a big part in what is considered “success” in this culture. While members of the lower class may rise to higher stature, they may never be accepted in to some circles.
