CJA234 week 2 History of corrections

A look at past and present corrections

Jails and prisons have a long and bumpy history in America.  Jails have been around since the founding of this country and has evolved many times along the way.  A jail or prisons primarily role is to watch over inmates as they serve time for crimes they have committed.  Many different types of housing facilities exist ranging from low security to maximum security and even as many new facilities are being built, the local prison facilities of America are not large enough to hold all of the criminals that they arrest.  Even though today’s system of corrections is not perfect, it is continually changing as new ideas and concepts are introduced, tested and either succeed or fail.  Never the less, we continue to perfect our methods and work to build a system for the future.
