I chose to discuss the Common Core Anchor Standard - CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.3 (Common Core Standards, n.d.) for this Journal. This standard states that the student must analyze how and why individuals, events, or ideas develop and interact over the course of a text. I chose this standard because I think it covers one of the most important aspects of reading comprehension. In order to truly appreciate the material being read, one must be able to analyze why each character acted in a certain way, why certain events happened, etc. A beginning reader may not know that he/she is analyzing this information but being able to do so is paramount to comprehension. A student that masters this skill will likely not only become a proficient reader, but will also gain an appreciation of the simple joy of reading.
