From the readings and personal experience a traditional office worker’s needs are much greater than a virtual worker. An office worker needs physical items such as a phone with voice mail, typewriter, memo paper, writing utensils, etc. The virtual worker needs only the online environment because conceivably all tasks can be conducted online.
The structure of the virtual worker’s communications, with new technology, can be easily combined in the online environment. Voicemails can be forwarded to e-mail, memos can be written electronically erasing the need for paper and writing utensils, real time online chat, etc. In situations where the online environment is insufficient for the consumer or business partner a landline fills the information gap.
