Santa Orosia - Choan Gálvez

Santa Orosia is a suite for ukulele in fifths written by Choan Gálvez, inspired by traditional melodies from Yebra de Basa, in Aragon, Spain. The work is dedicated to Donald Bousted, who has fully recorded it in his baritone ukulele album Barry Tone’s Fantastic Adventure.

Performance of this work requires a ukulele tuned in fifths, low to high: C3 G3 D4 A4. This tuning is affordable both in tenors and baritones with appropriate strings.

Santa Orosia represents the best of new music for the ukulele in fifths, a somewhat undervalued tuning for this instrument to date but one I am sure will gain in popularity with the publication of this suite of pieces.
“I greatly enjoyed learning this set for its premiere recording on my album Barry Tone’s Fantastic Adventure (2021) and performing just over half the pieces in a concert in July 2021 in Norfolk, UK.
“In his re-composition of this material, Gálvez has maintained the energy and emotional range of the original tunes but enriched them in a modern and sometimes humorous way.” —Dr Donald Bousted
