Discussion of a Key Point, Thread, or Objective

The history of gangs in communities influences the criminal justice system. For instance, the Hispanic community has experienced exploitation of low-paid farm labor camps, government infiltration of community activist groups, massive cuts in social programs, Vietnam veterans returning to the poorest communities, underemployement and unemployment, and deterioration of educational conditions, which fostered an environment for street gangs (Rodriguez, 2005).
