Ethically Responsible and Irresponsible News Reporting

The news media is big business, it is not always an easy job and there are times when journalist must at times make decisions whether to tell the truth or embellish on a story when reporting events for better rating and exposure. Reporters have a social responsibility to the public and a duty to their network or obligation to the organization that they work with.
This paper will answer the following questions, what is journalism's ethical responsibility to society? When, if ever, is deception permissible in journalism?
What ethical obligations do reporters should have to their sources? And finally, under what conditions is a journalist ethically obligated to maintain privacy?
