Respite Care -- Part I Overview of Respite Care

Over the years, there has been a growing awareness that
adjustment to the special needs of a child influences all family members. This
awareness has generated interest and has led to the development of support
services for families to assist them throughout the lifelong adjustment
process. Within the diversity of family support services, respite care
consistently has been identified by families as a priority need (Cohen &
Warren, 1985).
