Albrecht Durer Art History Lesson by Brook Mesenbrink, Art for the Classical Child

Albrecht Durer was known for creating his own style of art that was highly realistic because he drew from careful observation and did not follow the rules established by the church. He made engraving and woodblock prints a popular fine art medium by improving the technique with fine texture lines to show light and dark values. He elevated the status of artists and was one of the first to paint a self portrait as a devotional painting. This 6 page lesson includes:
•a brief story of his life and art
•two famous art pieces to view with discussion questions
•a drawing lesson on texture with a practice exercise
•a step-by-step drawing lesson of the Little Owl
•a step-by-step print making lesson of the Little Owl
