Continue to build your portfolio from this week’s study of Chapters 8 & 12.  Add sections to your portfolio entitled:

·         International Monetary System

·         Assessing and Analyzing Markets

These areas should be researched and recorded in your portfolio by posting responses to the questions listed below.  Remember to use the Research Toolbox and cite your sources.  For this assignment, your response to each question should be at least 2-3 sentences in length.

International Monetary System

1.      Does your target country fix or float their currency?

2.      What are the levels of taxes, inflation, and balance of payments in the target country?

Assessing and Analyzing Markets

Perform these analyzes and record your results:

1.      Environmental Screening:

·         First screen: Amount of foreign trading by your target country.

·         Second screen: Provide your estimate of the total market for your type of goods in the target country. Use your best judgment with your estimate.   Depending on the product or service you provide, you could use population, gross national product, and personal income as a predictor.

·         Third screen: As you have already done with the political analysis in the previous week, identify the legal environment in the target country.

·         Fourth screen:  Competitive analysis - who are your company’s major competitors in the target country?  Briefly list their strengths and weaknesses.

2.      Segment Screening: Are there definable, accessible and actionable market segments that would form your company’s target markets in this country?

Post any other considerations related to the above topics that could impact your company’s business in your target country.

Purpose

The purpose of the business portfolio is to help you apply what you learn about international business to the analysis of an actual company. You will also learn to use important business research tools, and to use the web for presenting information.
