Topics: Consider the major purchases or expenses a family faces over their lifetime and pick one to explore in detail. Your topics should be something that is relevant to this course and of interest to you. If you are having trouble deciding on a topic, please do not hesitate to contact your instructor for help. Examples include, but are not limited to: nursing home costs, life leases, in- home care, maternity/parental leave policy, retirement savings, cost of completeing a masters program, rent-to-own programs, cloth vs. disposable diapers, buy-now pay-later programs, buying vs. leasing a vehicle, etc. Expenses associated with weddings may not be used for this paper. Investigation: Once you have decided on a topic, head out, and investigate: make phone calls, search the web, interview, and visit facilities. Do whatever your topic requires. Be sure to explore both the economic (e.g. money) and, if applicable, non-economic (e.g. time, energy, etc.) costs associated with your topic. Requirements: Briefly introduce your topic and review the specific economic and non-economic costs associated with your topic. After you have reviewed the economic and non-economic costs of the expense or purchase, include a paragraph that interprets how the economic & non- economic costs of your topic may affect families of different socio-economic statuses.
