VCT 236 Week 1 Individual: Good Design,
Bad Design, and How to Fix It

Select two images from the Internet: one you
consider to be designed well and another you consider to be poorly designed.
The images may be banner, online advertisements, or graphics on a site.

Write a 1-
to 2-page summary that evaluates the images you have selected.

Explain why one image demonstrates effective design and why the
other demonstrates ineffective design. Consider at least two of the following
aspects of visual design:

  • Color

  • Contrast

  • Symmetry and
    asymmetry

  • Balance

  • Alignment

  • Proximity

  • Visual hierarchy

  • Typography

Explain how you would improve the poorly-designed image using
Adobe® Photoshop®.

Cite the
images consistent with APA guidelines.

Include a link to each image or the image file in your assignment
submission.

Submit your
assignment to the Assignment Files tab.

VCT 236 Week 2 Individual: Pros, Cons,
and Legal Issues Draft

Based on your Week Two
Learning Team Collaborative discussion, write a 2- to 3-page
paper that includes the following:

  • The pros and
cons of outsourcing the photography to a professional photographer.

  • The pros and
cons of creating the infrastructure to take the photographs in-house.

  • The legal
issues that may be encountered and how they should be handled under the
    in-house and outsourced models.

Format your
paper according to APA guidelines.

Submit your
assignment using the Assignment Files tab above.

VCT 236 Week 2 Individual: Photo
Manipulation

The individual
assignments in this course build upon each other to design and develop an image
banner that can be used as a website masthead or for other electronic and print
publications, such as report covers. This assignment is due in Week Four.

Review a
company website to determine the style and message this client is trying to
depict. Select a non-copyrighted photograph that communicates this message
appropriately. Include an image citation for your photo.

Compare the
original photo to the following techniques:

  • Optimize the
original photo for the web, and save the optimized photo. Place the
optimized photo on a PowerPoint® slide with your
    description and file information.

  • Crop and
resize the photo. Place the cropped photo on a PowerPoint® slide
with your description and file information.

  • Retouch the
cropped photo using a correction or color adjustment tool. Place the
retouched photo on a PowerPoint® slide with your
    description and file information.

Create a
PowerPoint® presentation that compares the original image and
file information to three different image editing techniques. List the file
format, the file size, and the image resolution on each slide. Include a brief
description of your technique and any tools used.

Submit your
assignment using the Assignment Tab above.

VCT 236 Week 3 Individual: Equipment
and Impact Paper

Based on your Week Three
Learning Team Collaborative discussion, write a 2- to 3-page
paper that includes the following:

the photography influence the day-to-day store operations under each
    model?

Format your
paper according to APA guidelines.

Submit your
assignment using the Assignment Files tab above.

VCT 236 Week 3 Individual: Banner

This week's assignment will incorporate last week's optimized
photo into a banner using layers.

background on a canvas that is 675 x 150 pixels.

Place the
optimized photo from Week Two on a new layer.

Blend the
transition between the background layer and the photo layer using gradients,
feathering, transparency, or blurs.

Add another
graphic element on a third layer.

Practice the
principles of good composition, such as purpose, balance, color, alignment, and
so on.

Submit the
banner as a JPEG file that is less than 200KB.

Cite the
incorporated photo from the previous week, in addition to this week's selected
graphic.

and Potential Uses Draft

Based on your Week Four
