Research Argument—Outline and Works Cited (MLA)

Your essay outline must follow the following format:

Introduction:

Develop a full introduction that introduces the subject and provides other gripping, general information that leads the audience/reader into the content of the essay

A clear thesis with a key argument and three main ideas that prove the argument

Body

Main idea # 1

Topic Sentence

Brief introduction/summary of the points

First sub point

Evidence (from research)

Brief summary of how you will analyze this, explaining how this will connect to the thesis

Second sub point

Evidence (from research)

Brief summary of how you will analyze this, explaining how this will connect to the thesis

Third sub point

Evidence (from research)

Brief summary of how you will analyze this, explaining how this will connect to the thesis

(NOTE: the number of sub point will depend on your research and how much you develop the argument)

Main idea # 2

Topic Sentence

Brief introduction/summary of the points

First sub point

Evidence (from research)

Brief summary of how you will analyze this, explaining how this will connect to the thesis

Second sub point

Evidence (from research)

Brief summary of how you will analyze this, explaining how this will connect to the thesis

Third sub point

Evidence (from research)

Brief summary of how you will analyze this, explaining how this will connect to the thesis

Conclusion

Explain how you will conclude the essay—whether you will add historical background, speculation, solution, etc.

 

Works Cited/Annotated Bibliography

Your outline will include an annotated bibliography, which MUST have at least SIX sources. Your six sources must include the following and must be in MLA format for Works Cited.  Make sure your follow the spacing, hanging indent, punctuation, etc. conventions for annotated bibliographies

Citation (MLA format)

Summarize the source—what is it about, what key ideas it explores, what conclusions it draws

Explain how this is relevant for your argument and how will it support your argument
