Phonics is the relationship between sounds and their spellings. It helps children understand the relationships between letters and individual sounds (Gibson & Gold, 2002). Phonic awareness, on the other hand, involves the relationship between sounds in spoken words (Blevins, n.d.). Both Phonics and Phonic Awareness are important for a student to learn to read.
Have the students make letter cards. On one side of the card the student will write an Upper and lower case letter. On the flip side of the card the students will paste a picture of something that starts with that letter. For instance the students could paste a picture of a cat or a cake for theletter C.
