Arizona Unit 6A is known for a large herd of Elk. unit 6A has more elk than any other unit in Arizona.
It is rare that a early morning or late evening drive through the back roads of this unit doesn't produce at least one Elk sighting.
Of course, once hunting season starts, the Elk learn very quickly not to hang out too close to the more well traveled roads. Bulls especially will not tolerate too much human activity.
Therefore it is wise to seek some out of the way areas that still offer the Elk food, water, and cover. In 6A South, the Wet Beaver Creek area fits that bill. There are many water tanks and meadows in this area and the Wet Beaver Creek Canyon provide an easy escape route for the animals.
