DELUTS Canon DSLR camera profiles and Lut looks.
Version 1.1 Oct/16

There are several LOG type profiles for the Canon DSLR cameras and I first made one 7 years ago. Things have moved on since then and LOG camera profiles have really moved on.

I have developed 2 main profiles for the Canon DSLR and around 120 Lut looks across the camera profiles to download.

• CLOG Neutral (v1.0 & v2.0)

• CLOG 3 Samples https://vimeo.com/182394450/0d109c1bcd

CLOG Neutral comes in two options, one with a highlight roll off knee that stays below clipping (v1) and one where its a little more pronounced (v2).

CLOG 3 gives you a more Canon style modern LOG image.

There are also some additional camera profiles (found in the Additional Profiles folder) that help you shoot using colour tones of the standard camera profiles like Faithful, Fine Detail (depending on camera), Landscape, Neutral, Portrait and Standard. There is also a couple of more defined Monotone profiles.

Both the main profiles have corresponding LUT looks and for many options. All profiles designed around Canon captured imagery shot over the last 3 years.

There is also a separate folder ‘DELUTS Neutral Film Looks’ that contains LUT looks allowing you to over grade existing Standard shot profiles in several film tones.

There are around 120 Lut looks across the camera profiles to download.

I would suggest trying the 2 main profiles and the corresponding luts to see what you prefer shooting with. Shooting 8-bit in camera will always have limitations, some Lut Looks will show artifacts from the encoding process when colour profiles are pushed.

Luts are supplied in 16x16x16, 33x33x33 and 64x64x64 These are Resolve compatible 3D Luts that can be used in many applications natively and others with LUT loading plugins.

Please use 16x16x16 Luts in Adobe Premiere. Although you can load higher point Luts the system can drastically slow down by doing so.

For FCPX users please see folders marked FCPX they contains all compatible LUTs for FCPX when used with 3rd party LUT loaders. The FCPX marked luts can also be used with hardware that requires resolve legacy variants of 3D Luts.

This is a working LUT set and is subject to change. Please keep luts used within your project folder for later use. Never finalise a Premiere Pro project using quick select luts, always load in manually before you render or archive the job.

From Adobe CC 2015.3 on onwards its easier to load LUTs load into Adobe software. Its also the same for 2017 versions.

MAC: Adobe Premiere Pro Navigate to the Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017.app and right click or Control click and select ‘Show Package Contents’ Open folder called ‘Contents’ then ‘Lumetri’ and then ‘LUTs’ and then finally open the ‘Creative’ or ‘Technical’. Place instructed .cube files or folders into specified folders found with in the DELUTS download. Normally marked ‘Adobe Installers’.

Macintosh HD/Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017.app/Contents/Lumetri/LUTs/Creative

or from the Finder as a shortcut click ‘Go to Folder’ (Apple, Shift G) and paste in for ‘Creative’

/Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017.app/Contents/Lumetri/LUTs/Creative

and then for ‘Technical’

/Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.app/Contents/Lumetri/LUTs/Technical

This will take you to the correct locations.

If you send projects to Adobe Media Encoder then you will need to do the same with that application. The ‘Creative’ and ‘Technical’ folders of Adobe Media Encoder and Adobe Premiere should always match to get the selected look on render.

/Applications/Adobe After Effects CC 2017/Adobe After Effects CC 2017.app/Contents/Lumetri/LUTs/Creative

/Applications/Adobe After Effects CC 2017/Adobe After Effects CC 2017.app/Contents/Lumetri/LUTs/Technical

You can also use DELUTS in Adobe Photoshop. You can find them in Adjustments/Color Lookup/3DLUT File dropdown list.

/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC 2017/Presets/3DLUTs

PC: For PC generally speaking locate your ‘Adobe’ folder in ‘Program Files’ and open the ‘Creative’ or ‘Technical’.
Place instructed .cube files or folders into specified folders found with in the DELUTS download. Normally marked ‘Adobe Installers’.

Example:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017\Lumetri\LUTs\Creative

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017\Lumetri\LUTs\Technical

Same applies for Adobe Media Encoder and Photoshop (see MAC above for reference).

Note: Please restart any Adobe applications after adding LUTS.

Also note there is a limited number of Luts that can be displayed in Premiere at one time. Place a holding folder at Lumetri/LUTs to store luts that you do not regularly use.

DELUTS RED FILM STOCKS:
80 DELUTS Film 35mm Stock emulations. My interpretations of some of the classic film stocks for the RED Dragon Cameras.

Please read first: Profiles are designed around ‘DRAGONcolor2’ Color Space and ‘REDgamma4’ Gamma Curve. ISO is rated around 400 depending on Look, all other meta data settings are at their default.
Please load ‘Base RMD for DELUTS.RMD’ from the folder and replace the ‘Look : Effect : 3D LUT’ with one of the 80 .cube files in this DELUTS pack.

LUTs are supplied in 64, 33 and 17 Lattice Points. Interpolation will take place if using LUTS below the intended look of the 64 Lattice Points.
The RED Weapon Dragon Carbon supports Supports 33x33x33, 32x32x32, 26x26x26, 17x17x17 3D LUTs The Magnesium supports unto 17x17x17 3D LUTs in camera. REDCINE-X PRO supports up to 64x64x64 3D LUTs.

Exporting to an intermediate codec with 3D LUTs can be very processor intensive. Please use 17x17x17 3D LUTs if you require faster renders. Color points will be interpolated by selecting a lower Edge Length in REDCINE-X PRO 3D LUT options. I do not recommend going below 17 though.

Please note: There are 80 LUTs in this DELUTS RED FILM STOCKS set. Supplied as native .cube files. No installers are needed or supplied for this set. Integration into Premiere may come at a later point.

FILM STOCKS:

These are my interpretations of some classic film stocks. There are so many variables involved for simulations I have developed a set of Looks that I believe gives you a take on the analogue film look, kind of how you remember them rather than a simulation. To generate these LUTs I have shot multiple stocks of 35mm film, developed and scanned taking reference to produce these looks. I have not given the LUTs official naming as there is no exact standard to do so, even when using set specifications. And besides anyone who knows my LUTS knows my quirky naming and numbering. I will continue to develop this set and I’m always open for suggestions.

DELUTS FILM SET 1: (In no particular order and I suggest going though and sorting into a favourite order)

KD Color 7210
Based on an overall modern Kodak film look.

KD Color 7210 2SU
Based on an overall modern Kodak film look with 2 stops under in tone.
*Film underexposes out of tone more dramatically than over exposing and to get that effect using a 2SU LUT will add the additional color look of doing so.

KD Color 7211
Based on an overall modern Kodak film look with reduced saturation in the greens.

KD Color 7212
Based on an overall modern Kodak film look with reduced saturation in the reds.

KD Color 7213
Based on an overall modern Kodak film look with shadows lightened slightly.

KD Color 7213 SA
Based on an overall modern Kodak film look with shadows lightened slightly and increased Saturation in the mid-tones.

KD Color 7213 SA 2SO
Based on an overall modern Kodak film look with shadows lightened slightly and increased Saturation in the mid-tones and 2 stops over.
Doing this instead of just increasing the exposure on KD Color 7213 SA produces more filmic tones.  Example If exposed for 320ISO set ISO in REDCINE-X PRO to 160ISO.

KD Color 7214
Based on an overall modern Kodak film look with mid-tones and shadows lightened significantly.

LUT RESOLUTION:

My Luts are supplied in 64, 33, 17 lattice points. The lower then number the smaller the LUT size and the quicker the LUT will be on an edit sequence. A 64 point LUT and a 17 point LUT will visually look very similar. It depends on the edit software, monitor and the way it interpolates the conversions. For best results in REDCINE-X use a 64 point LUT (Edge Length) by default REDCINE-X interpolates down to 32 points unless you change it.

For example a 17 point LUT is 111KB where as a 64 point LUT is 7.1MB. A big difference for processing is required between the two.

Adobe Premiere CC only really functions well on 17 point LUTS but it interpolates them very well. It is very common for people to think using a 8 point LUT or a lower lattice point than 64 will produce banding in their image. This is not the case but It will effect the display of color adjustment if very fine colour range adjustments had been performed. If you are any using any LUT, especially when working on an 8-bit image be cautious as using them can affect the graduations and cause negative artifacts to be displayed.

Actually using a lower point LUT such as an 8 Point version can smooth out problem areas by interpolation, so using them does have advantages apart from the greatly reduce computer processing requirements needed. I recommend not going below 17 though.

The Looks (LUTs) are designed around ‘DRAGONcolor2’ Color Space and ‘REDgamma4’ Gamma Curve not LOG. Although they may work on other cameras with some adjustments they will not match across cameras. To be added to this set as a free addition will be some common cross conversion. LOG C, SLOG, VLOG etc.

For an indication of Looks from this set please visit www.deluts.com - (This sets web page is currently being added) or here for a selection of look examples. https://vimeo.com/153431239

Re. Product update: Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3 / DELUTS

Please read all the way down.

Adobe have updated CC applications and Adobe Premiere CC 2015.3 and have slightly changed the way LUTs load into Premiere. Instead of loading the LUT .looks files that I created as a MAC installer and a Manual installer on PC.

All you now have to do is add the .cube files to one folder within Premiere App and restart the Application. Navigate to the APP. (So for example on a MAC its Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.app)

1/ Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.app  Control click (ctrl) whilst clicking on the app and select 'Show Package Contents'.

2/ Navigate to /Contents/Lumetri/LUTs/Creative Place the .cube that you would like to use or try here and restart Premiere.

I would suggest leaving the .cube LUTs inside folders like 'SLOG3' or 'SET 4' etc, this way its easier to remove and manage them. The .cube are also supplied in separate folders when you downloaded the DELUTS from Sellfy. If the folder is marked  '17 PointCube LUTS' use these otherwise add what is supplied. Premiere still chokes on LUTs above 17x17x17 in complicated sequences a note of caution.

MAC ONLY - Your installed .cube files can also be found at your Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/DELUTS  here they are all in folders already and just need moving to the new location. "Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.app/Contents/Lumetri/LUTs/Creative"

For PC I would suggest adding the .cube LUTs from the original DELUTS folder.   I will be updating the all the packs over the next few days accordingly and to make it clear for users.

PLEASE READ: As ever please don't upgrade if you are part way through a project. And note down what looks and Luts you used in the sequence as I always suggest. Opening a previous project will loose the link to that particular LUT so its very important that you manually add a lut once you have made a choice on what to use through the quick browser. Its always a safe way to archive and deliver projects anyway.

Example:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3\Lumetri\LUTs\Creative

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3\Lumetri\LUTs\Technical

Same applies for Adobe Media Encoder and Photoshop (see MAC above for reference).

Note: Please restart any Adobe applications after adding LUTS.

Its always a safe way to archive and deliver projects like this anyway.

Pre 2015.3 update and other below

Manual and automatic installers can be found within the downloaded DELUTS set under Adobe Premiere Pro CC (2015) Installers. For Mac please launch the .mpkg package installer. For PC please follow the instructions.

MAC: Please set your Mac to allow apps download from ‘Anywhere’ under ‘Security & Privacy’ in your ‘System Preferences’ to allow this installer to run.

PC: Put the folder "DELUTS" found in the ‘PC’ folder within ‘Adobe Premiere Pro CC (2015) Installers’ into the location below. If a folder "DELUTS" already exists, place the containing folder i.e. “ VLOG”  inside "DELUTS" otherwise copy the enclosing folder also. If there are any zipped folders please unzip before installing.

File path below:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015\Lumetri\Looks\Cine Looks\

Put the remaining folder i.e. “LOG” into the location below:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015\Lumetri\LUTs\Technical

Its very important where you place the 'look' & 'Cube' files. Please ensure they are in their correct locations. Missing out a folder or changing names of LUTs will loose the file location and result in Red and White checkerboard when selecting a LUT.

Restart your application or preform a restart for the Luts to load.

Note: DELUTS ’Looks’ will add files & folders within this directory: Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015/Contents/Lumetri/Looks/Cine Looks & also in your Application Support within you Library for Mac and C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015\Lumetri\Looks\Cine Looks\DELUTS for PC.

Please contact support [email protected] if your installation of Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015 is not in the standard default location for Mac or not within C: drive on a PC. If you experience Red and White checkerboard when selecting a LUT this is normally the issue. I will do the best to give you support.

————————————

Location of installed LUTs and usage when using Adobe Premiere CC 2105:

Creative Looks will be available through the ‘Lumetri Color’ interface under the ‘Creative’ section.

Use ‘Basic Correction’ in the ‘Lumetri Color’ interface to control Exposure & White Balance for example.
Other LUT adjustments should be made in the Creative section of ‘Lumetri Color’ interface.
I find it best to apply an adjustment layer over the top of my cut, then adjust the Exposure / White Balance etc on the actual clip underneath, that way the LUT will work as intended.

Also supplied in this pack are 'DELUTS LOG' luts. These let you use pre graded or Rec look footage to bring back to LOG (simulation) so that you can apply one of the creative DELUT looks.

If you are using an older copy of Premiere that has limited ‘Lumetri’ function, you will still be able to load one lut at a time.

————————————

Location of installed LUTs and usage when using FCPX:

For FCPX you will need a LUT loader or LUT utility. I suggest ‘Color Finale’ by Denver Riddle. http://try.colorgradingcentral.com/colorfinale/. I have no affiliation with Denver Riddle but I do think his plugin for FCPX controls LUTs very well. He now has x-rite support to help balance you cameras or shots.

To add DELUTS to the Color Finale plugin for FCPX. Locate ‘Color Finale’ from the Effects tab and drag to your clip. navigate to the plugin and open the Control Panel. From there select ‘LUT Utility’ Tab and then in the bottom right corner Launch the Cube manager. Add the DELUTS .cube files here using the ’+’ symbol. These will then be available in the drop down menu ‘LUT Name’ in the control panel. Select the LUT and apply. Use ‘Curves’ within the plugin to control exposure and remember that effects work best before the LUT in layer order. For best effect drag the ‘Curve’ below the ‘LUT Utility’. But what ever works for you!

————————————

Please Note!
There is a limited number of 3rd party LUTs that can be loaded into Adobe Premiere CC 2015 at one time. If you have multiple DELUTS sets installed you may need to remove some luts from the folder inside the directory below. You can move whole sets outside this directory temporarily and place back when you need them again. I would suggest removing the LUTs that you are not frequently using to help this scenario. Please be careful if you are mid way through an edit when installing any plugins or looks.

PC:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015\Lumetri\Looks\Cine Looks\DELUTS

MAC: (Use ‘Show Package Contents’ on the .app to view contents by using ‘Control’ click)
Macintosh HD/Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.app/Contents/Lumetri/Looks/Cine Looks

Additionally please remember with Premiere Pro CC 2015 on Mac or PC, Adobe Looks from the speed dropdown menu within the Creative section of Lumetri colour window display and function in slot allocation. Installation of any additional 3rd party Looks will change the order of the dropdown menu in alphabetical order. This may effect the ‘look’ you have on open Projects. Or when reopening projects. If you come across this issue please remove the last installed set of looks, restart Premiere and note the Looks used in the project.

For project archive purposes I would suggest using the dropdown quick preview as a starting point to choose a lut then Manually adding the LUT to maintain consistent looks across different workstations or when recalling older projects.

(This doesn't effect LUTs that have been manually loaded into Lumetri)

Looks and LUTS are installed into Adobe Media Encoder much the same way as Premiere. The contents of Lumetri within these applications must be identical if you are using AME to export from. Otherwise you will not have the same matching settings with in your project. (this is a side effect from using the quick looks. Loading .cube files manually will not have this problem on export. Please check before exporting your project that this is the case. You can copy the contents of the installed DELUTS between Premiere and AME if need be.

Re. Product update: Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3 / DELUTS

Big thanks to Nick Driftwood (Brighton based Panasonic ambassador) for his help filming and testing on the GH4.

A set of 200 film grade LUTs based on the Panasonic VLOG-L.

Although these LUTs are balanced for VLOG-L they can still be used with other VLOG cameras and with primary adjustment they can be used on other cameras also. At a later stage free updates to this pack might be made to accommodate other cameras.

Incase you do not yet have VLOG-L for your GH4 camera, also supplied within the pack is a small set of VLOG MAKELOG SIMULATOR luts. These can be used with clips that have already been graded. There are versions for CineLike-V and CineLike-D. There are 6 LUTS to choose from in a few strengths of LOG simulation. You can find these in ‘Basic Correction’ dropdown menu within Lumetri after installation.

Please read before installing.

MAC: Adobe Premiere Pro Navigate to the Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.app and right click or Control click and select ‘Show Package Contents’ Open folder called ‘Contents’ then ‘Lumetri’ and then ‘LUTs’ and then finally open the ‘Creative’ or ‘Technical’. Place instructed .cube files or folders into specified folders found with in the DELUTS download. Normally marked ‘Adobe Installers’.

Macintosh HD/Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.app/Contents/Lumetri/LUTs/Creative

or from the Finder as a shortcut click ‘Go to Folder’ (Apple, Shift G) and paste in for ‘Creative’

/Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.app/Contents/Lumetri/LUTs/Creative

and then for ‘Technical’

/Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.app/Contents/Lumetri/LUTs/Technical

This will take you to the correct locations.

If you send projects to Adobe Media Encoder then you will need to do the same with that application. The ‘Creative’ and ‘Technical’ folders of Adobe Media Encoder and Adobe Premiere should always match to get the selected look on render.

/Applications/Adobe After Effects CC 2015.3/Adobe After Effects CC 2015.app/Contents/Lumetri/LUTs/Creative

/Applications/Adobe After Effects CC 2015.3/Adobe After Effects CC 2015.app/Contents/Lumetri/LUTs/Technical

You can also use DELUTS in Adobe Photoshop. You can find them in Adjustments/Color Lookup/3DLUT File dropdown list.

/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC 2015.5/Presets/3DLUTs

PC: For PC generally speaking locate your ‘Adobe’ folder in ‘Program Files’ and open the ‘Creative’ or ‘Technical’.
Place instructed .cube files or folders into specified folders found with in the DELUTS download. Normally marked ‘Adobe Installers’.

Example:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3\Lumetri\LUTs\Creative

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3\Lumetri\LUTs\Technical

Same applies for Adobe Media Encoder and Photoshop (see MAC above for reference).

Note: Please restart any Adobe applications after adding LUTS.

Its always a safe way to archive and deliver projects like this anyway.

----------------------------------------

If a folder "DELUTS" already exsists, place the containing folder i.e. “BMCC 4K Film” or “BMPCC Film” inside "DELUTS" otherwise copy the enclosing folder also.

MAC:

And note down what looks and Luts you used in the sequence as I always suggest.  Opening a previous project will loose the link to that particular LUT so its very important that you manually add a lut once you have made a choice on what to use through the quick browser.

If a folder "DELUTS" already exsists, place the containing folder i.e. “SET123” inside "DELUTS" otherwise copy the enclosing folder also.

There are also now several DELUTS LOG luts in the ‘Basic Correction’ section ‘Input LUT’ dropdown menu. These let you put pre graded or Rec look footage back to LOG so that you can apply one of the Creative DELUT looks.

If you are using an older copy of Premiere that has limited ‘Lumetri’ function, you will still be able to load one lut at a time.

MAC:
Macintosh HD/Applications/Adobe Media Encoder CC 2015/Adobe Media Encoder CC 2015.app/Contents/Lumetri/Looks/Cine Looks/
PC:
